About Cameryn Blackmore, Ph.D.

Dr. Cameryn Blackmore is a scholar and practitioner dedicated to invoking change within the political and policymaking arenas. Her broad research interests provide an intersection between Public Policy and American Politics, specifically as these fields impact racial and ethnic citizen groups. As a former public administrator for the state of Louisiana, her professional experiences guide her inquiry into providing creative and equitable methods both the bureaucracy and political institutions can be responsive to marginalized groups in the United States.

Dr. Blackmore completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from the University of Alabama defending her dissertation project. Before beginning her doctoral studies, she obtained her Master of Public Administration from Southern University Baton Rouge. It was at Southern University she discovered her interest in the public policymaking process.

Before returning to pursue her doctorate, she worked in various capacities with disadvantaged youth. Her community involvement motivated her to advocate for social justice within the political and policy processes as a researcher. Dr. Blackmore has researched the effect judicial policymaking has on the education field, which she presented at several conferences within the political science field.

In addition to her work within the political science field, Dr. Blackmore has participated in and published research studying the impact of community engagement scholarship on marginalized student groups in the Black Belt of Alabama. These opportunities and experiences have shaped Dr. Blackmore as a citizen dedicated to activism and empowering the Black community, as well as a scholar committed to her scholarship reaching beyond the ivory tower. Dr. Blackmore looks forward to researching the effects of federal and state legislation on marginalized communities and using that research to increase responsive policy outcomes for these communities.
